Brussels Airport recorded strong growth in its air cargo operations in April, handling a total of 73,964 tonnes of cargo, representing a 6.2% increase compared to the same period last year.
The growth was primarily driven by a significant rise in flown cargo volumes, which increased by 6.4% year-on-year. Within this segment, the airport saw continued momentum in integrator services, which grew by 1.9%, while the full freighter segment recorded a remarkable 23.5% increase, supported by rising cargo demand on routes to Asia.
Despite ongoing disruptions linked to the conflict in the Middle East, Brussels Airport maintained positive cargo performance. However, belly cargo volumes declined by 8%, largely due to cancelled passenger flights to the region. Meanwhile, trucked cargo volumes increased by 5.2%, reflecting continued flexibility and resilience within the logistics network.
Asia and North America remained the airport’s leading import regions, both posting strong growth alongside Africa. On the export side, North America and Africa also registered further increases, reinforcing Brussels Airport’s role as a key international cargo gateway connecting Europe with major global trade markets.
The continued growth in cargo volumes highlights the resilience of Brussels Airport’s cargo operations and the sustained demand for international freight services across strategic global regions.
