Hong Kong International Airport recorded steady growth in air cargo volumes in April 2026, further strengthening its position as one of the world’s leading international air freight hubs.
During the month, HKIA handled 423,000 tonnes of cargo, representing a 4.9% year-on-year increase. The airport stated that overall cargo growth was primarily driven by strong transshipment performance, which surged by 20.2% year on year, while imports also recorded healthy growth of 6.5%. Export declines narrowed significantly to just 0.3%, indicating improving stability in outbound freight demand.
Regional cargo performance remained mixed, with growth in Europe and Southeast Asia helping offset softer demand from North America and the Middle East.
For the first four months of 2026, HKIA processed 1.63 million tonnes of cargo, reflecting a 3.7% increase compared to the same period last year. On a rolling 12-month basis, total cargo throughput reached 5.12 million tonnes, up 2.9% year on year.
The latest cargo figures highlight HKIA’s continued role as a key global logistics and transshipment gateway, supporting international trade flows and regional supply chain connectivity across major markets.
