Swissport is celebrating its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of growth from its beginnings at Zurich, Geneva and Basel airports in 1996 to becoming a global aviation services provider. Today, the company serves approximately 850 airline customers across more than 300 airports in 49 countries, with a network supported by 63,000 employees.
The company has recorded strong growth in recent years, doubling its turnover over the past five years. Between 2023 and 2025, Swissport achieved a 7.2% compound annual growth rate in revenue, with cargo growing at 10.1%, ground handling at 5.6% and hospitality at 20.8%. Across its global network, Swissport handles around 4 million flights, serves 243 million passengers and processes 5.2 million tonnes of air cargo annually through 126 cargo warehouses.
Swissport has continued to expand in key aviation markets, including China, Saudi Arabia, the UK and Latin America. Its cargo operations have been strengthened through infrastructure investments in locations including Manchester, Amsterdam, Sofia, Liège and New York, supporting growing demand for e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, perishables and temperature-sensitive cargo.
Technology and innovation remain central to Swissport’s growth strategy. The company is integrating artificial intelligence, data analytics, robotics and automation into its operations. At Shanghai Pudong Airport, AI-enabled warehouse systems can process up to 3,500 parcels per hour with 99.5% accuracy, while Swissport is also testing autonomous ground-handling technology at Zurich Airport.
Sustainability is another key focus, with more than 27% of Swissport’s global ground support equipment fleet now electric, making it the world’s largest electric GSE fleet. The company also continues to invest in employee development, with more than two million training sessions completed through Swissport Academy in 2025.
“As we mark our 30th anniversary, we celebrate the people, partnerships and pioneering spirit that have defined Swissport’s journey,” said Warwick Brady, President and CEO of Swissport International. “As we enter our next chapter, driven by AI, automation and sustainability, Swissport is shaping the future of aviation services for airlines, airports, passengers and cargo customers around the world.”
